What might be the most important debate (at least in my lifetime) is going on right now regarding Net Neutrality! Chairman of the FCC Julius Genachowski has unveiled a plan for a new two-tiered Internet delivery system which would favor material by certain companies and require others to pay extra for additional services or ever worse, they could block them altogether!! On December 21st, the FCC will vote on this issue. For it to pass all four FCC commissioners have to vote yes. Two commissioners Robert M. McDowell and Meredith Attwell Baker are expected to vote yes! Luckily, the other two, Michael J. Copps and Mignon Clyburn have a chance to stop this from happening by voting against it. Please write to them!! Here is a direct link to each of their contact forms:

Email Micheal J. Copps

Email Mignon Clyburn

Email Robert M. McDowell

Email Meredith Attwell Baker

Please contact them and ask them to vote against a two-tiered internet and to uphold the principles of Net Neutrality.

Here is the letter I sent to them…

Commissioner Michael J. Copps, Meredith Attwell Baker, Robert M. McDowell, and Mignon Clyburn,

As I understand it the FCC commissioners will be voting on Dec 21st on a new policy with regards to Internet delivery. I am a small business owner whose income and those of my employees depend solely on income generated from our website. We have worked tirelessly for the past 6 years to boost our search rankings and are now number one for most of our keywords when searched online. This new two-tiered approach, as presented by the chairman of the FCC, has enormous potential to dramatically undermine our efforts and all those employed by small online businesses as well as degrade user access to valuable online content. When certain sites are preferred over others on certain networks it will invariably affect site ranking. With regards to search engines, the vehicle though which most online commerce is driven, this proposal would eliminate what was previously a fair “playing ground” for online businesses large and small and effectively kill small business on the Internet. Please vote no on this coming proposal and uphold the principles of Net Neutrality!
